What we eat in our routine diet largely affects the overall health of our body. Deficiency of any mineral or vitamin in our body can cause a number of diseases. In take of any harmful ingredient can hamper the growth and development of the body. Hence it is very important to take a balanced diet.

Our diet must contain a sufficient quantity of carbohydrates (wheat, potato, gram, etc) as they provide energy to the body. Proteins (pulses, fruits, etc) provide a source of material for growth and repair. Mineral (vegetables, fruits, fresh water, etc) salts are required for healthy teeth, bones and muscles. Fats (olive oil, milk products) also provide energy to the body and contain fat soluble minerals. Fiber content (fruits, salads, etc) is required for proper functioning of the intestine. All these ingredients when taken in a proper proportion constitute a balanced diet which is very important to maintain the overall health of the body.
